Abstract
Two functionalized bipyrroles, 3,3′,5,5′-tetraethoxycarbonyl-4,4′-dipropyl- 2,2′-bipyrrole 1 and 3,3′,5,5′-tetraethoxycarbonyl-4,4′-diphenyl- 2,2′-bipyrrole 2, are highly luminescent materials at room conditions; they show UV emission at λmax = 416 (1) and 414 nm (2) with quantum yields close to unity in the solid state; the molecular structure of 2 shows a coplanar structure stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds, and the molecules are self-assembled along the crystallographic c axis by π-stacking interaction to form a one-dimensional chain; electroluminescence of 1 is evaluated.
