Abstract

In this paper, a hierarchical model is derived for MPEG video. This model is developed so as to represent the bit-rate variations of MPEG video at two different time scales/levels: scene level and frame level. Various evaluations show that the proposed model not only matches well the statistical characteristics with the real MPEG video but also predicts accurately the network performance of an ATM multiplexer.
