Abstract
The modified mild-slope equation derived by Kirby (1984) may be used to predict the coastal wave climate in the presence of currents, including the effects of refraction, diffraction, shoaling and reflection. Here, the modified mild-slope equation is discretized using finite volumes on rectangular hierarchical quadtree grids, and solved by the GMRES conjugate gradient technique. Results are presented for regular waves passing over Berkhoff et al.s (1982) elliptic shoal.
