Abstract
In the design of diecasting dies, the determination of the parting direction is of particular importance and heavily relies on the experience of individual designer. The parting direction is closely related to the release directions of interferential elements in a diecasting. A general approach to determine the release directions is presented in this paper. Based on the geometrical features of diecastings, the release directions of each interferential element in a diecasting are examined. The set of all release directions composes of candidate parting directions of a diecasting. The priority of each candidate parting direction is evaluated by a distribution factor of candidate parting direction and a preferred direction can thus be chosen.
