Abstract
While product design and development has received significant attention over the past years, the activity of design review (DR) has not been dealt with at an equal level, despite its paramount importance. This paper defines design review as the processing of mapping between the design objects that constitute a product design and the evaluation criteria against which the design is reviewed. Fuzzy set theory is introduced in this mapping process to deal with uncertainty and imprecision. The resulting fuzzy set theoretical approach to design review (FuzzySTAR) is used for reviewing a fuel pump design.
