Abstract

The positive column contraction in xenon discharge at intermediate pressures was analyzed. A one-dimensional model was developed to analyze the triggering mechanism of transitions and the discharge parameters which affects the threshold value. It was found that on using the xenon in fluorescent lamp, the positive column tends to constrict abruptly when the current exceeds a threshold value. The results show that there are several discontinuties of discharge parameters at point of transition from diffuse to considered state.
