title = "FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXED OPERATION OF FIBER BRAGG GRATING SENSORS USING SUBCARRIER INTENSITY MODULATION",
abstract = "We have demonstrated a FDM technique for addressing a FBG sensor array of multiple branches. The technique can be used to multiplex FBG sensors of either identical or different Bragg wavelength but is especially useful for the former case. It was shown that crosstalk between different sensing arms (using different subcarrier frequencies for intensity modulation) would be negligible. Although an array of only two FBG sensors was used in our experiment, the system could support a much larger number of FBG sensors by increasing the branches in the network. The multiplexing capacity can be further increased by fabricating a number of sensors along each fiber branch and by combining with other multiplexing techniques such as WDM and TDM. Work is presently directed at developing low cost intensity modulators and at multiplexing a large number of FBG sensors by combining FDM and WDM techniques.",
