Abstract

The synthesis of Al2O3amorphous phase on aluminum alloy 7075 was analyzed using in-situ laser cladding through thermite reaction between CuO and Al powders. The mixed powders of CuO(3 mol) + Al(2 mol) + SiO2(3 mol) were placed on an Al-7075 alloy substrate using a pasting binder. At top of Al2O3reaction layer, a complete amorphous structure of Al2O3phase was present and underneath it, a structure consisting of an amorphous Al2O3phase. The results show that top surface layer will experience highest cooling rate and an amorphous Al2O3phase could be formed at outermost surface of Al2O3reaction layer.
