Abstract
Formation energy of Stone-Wales (SW) defects in carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was investigated. The formation energy of SW defects in carbon nanotube was calculated using the extended Hückel method. The formation energies for the (10,10) armchair tube were found to be 5.4 eV and 7.5 eV, respectively.
