Abstract

Self-consolidating concrete or self-compacting concrete (SCC) can be compacted by its own weight without vibration. There is a potential use of SCC filled hollow structural steel sections (HSS). Fire resistance of such composite sections is an important issue that should be considered in design. In this paper, an investigation on SCC filled HSS stub columns is presented. The cylinder strength of SCC was found to be 100 MPa. Several SCC filled stub columns were tested in a furnace under the condition of standard fire. Numerical simulation of temperature distribution and fire endurance were conducted. The predicted temperature field distribution and fire endurance were compared to those tested.
