Abstract

This paper presents a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of composite tubular K-joints subjected to static loading. The joints are formed by welding unfilled hollow section (rectangular or circular) braces to concrete-filled hollow (rectangular or circular) sections. The confinement of concrete and interface between steel and concrete are considered in the analysis. The predicted load-displacement curves, ultimate load carrying capacity and failure modes are compared with experimental results published in the literature. Good agreement is achieved.
