Abstract
Optical fiber sensors have found numerous practical applications in a wide range of disciplines due to their intrinsic characteristics. This paper reviews the fabrication, working principle and the recent applications of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based sensors in healthcare. It aims to provide an understanding of the FBG-based technology with an overview of its unique characteristic behaviour. Since, FBG based sensors have yet to full fill their potential in healthcare and in medical devices it is crucial to explore and clarify their capabilities.
