Abstract

The fashion industry has gone through tremendous changes over the years. Empowering customers in the product development process is a known trend of the industry, yet it is technically challenging to realize because general consumers do not have knowledge of design. Their preferred styles may not be realistic and cannot be produced using textile materials. This chapter proposes a fashion skirt design system using artificial intelligence techniques, including evolutionary computation and fuzzy set theory. The system realizes customized designs from sketch to pattern design. It involves customers as co-designers in the sketch design process, and it streamlines the patternmaking process by computer automation. A prototype system was developed and verified. The advantages and future work are discussed.
