Abstract
Ferroelectric Sr 0.6 Ba 0.4 Nb 2 O 6 (SBN) films were fabricated on various substrates such as Si, Pt-coated Si, and MgO by pulsed laser deposition. The effect of deposition condition, substrate, (La 0.5 Sr 0.5 )CoO 3 buffer layer on the structure and morphology of SBN films were investigated systematically by x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The optimal processing has been obtained. The transverse electro-optic properties of SBN on MgO and fused quartz were also evaluated. The larger effective EO coefficient was observed on fused quartz. The possible explanation has been proposed.
