Abstract

Experimental tests were conducted for four reinforced concrete beams strengthened with post-tensioned carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets to investigate the short and long-term prestress losses. An analytical model, based on existing design specifications for prestressing reinforced concrete structures, is presented to predict such prestress losses. The experimental results showed that the instantaneous prestress loss due to anchorage set was the main part of the total prestress loss and was about 12.6%~18.2% of the initial prestress in CFRP. The time-dependent prestress loss was only 2.3%~3.9% of the initial prestress in CFRP. The curing period of epoxy resin until the release of prestress affects significantly the instantaneous prestress loss. The analytical model is validated through comparisons with the authors' and other researchers' test results.
