Abstract
Geophysical methods rely on the accurate determination of physical and mechanical properties of rocks. These properties are intimately related to rock microscopic features such as pore shape and distribution, grain orientations, and fluid distribution. The present contribution reports the preliminary results obtained with a newly conceived high pressure vessel which is paired with an X-ray micro-CT system to investigate the influence of fluid distribution and microstructural features on the physical and mechanical properties of rocks, and in particular on seismic wave attenuation and dynamic moduli.
