Abstract

Concrete-filled double skin tubular column (CFDST) is a new type of steel-concrete composite column which has advantages over other type of composite columns. The use of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) in CFDST can increase the constructional ability and ensure the quality of the composite columns as well. There is a great potential for SCC filled CFDST to be used as columns in buildings. The performance of CFDST at ambient temperature is intensively investigated. However, its behavior under fire condition is still unknown. This paper presents an experimental investigation on SCC filled double skin tubular columns exposed to standard fire. It was found that the fire resistance of such columns without external protection ranged from 40 to 115 minutes.
