Abstract
White objects with FWAs have been manufactured for many decades to interact with conventional illuminants such as daylight and incandescent light. With the wide application of LED featuring tuneable spectral power distribution (spd), more research is preferred to investigate whiteness perception under different LED lighting conditions. With this in mind, an experiment was conducted. In this study, 50 textile and paper samples were assessed using 4 rating scales in a psyholphysical experiment. The results showed that SPD can strongly affect the performance of CIE and Uchida whiteness metrics. In order to extend the lighting conditions to different CCTs, these metrics were modified to adopt different white points using CAT02 chromatic adaptation to transofrm the other illuminants to D65. The new metrics outperformed the original model greatly.
