Abstract

A novel torque estimator for accurately computing static and dynamic torque in switched reluctance motors (SRMs) is developed in this paper. It is derived from the analytical modeling of magnetic characteristics in SRMs, which is based on the two- dimensional (2-D) least squares technique. The computation results validated that the developed estimator can be used to accurately and fast compute static or dynamic torque if a limited number of static or dynamic magnetic characteristics are acquired by experiment or FE analysis. This paper provides a valuable torque estimator for performance prediction, design, and torque control of SRM drives.
