Abstract

People are paying increasing attention to environmental protection and prefer products to be manufactured and consumed in an environmentally friendly way. These are the main trends likely to persist in the near future. In the past two decades, academic research on environmentally friendly coloration has proliferated significantly. In this study, the current status of environmentally friendly coloration research and the future research trends are reviewed systematically, covering the literature from 1995 to 2014. The environmentally friendly coloration literature is classified by objectives into four categories: ingredient preparation; coloration process; wash-off process; reuse. After reviewing the accumulated knowledge of coloration, future directions of ecological coloration development are discussed.
