Abstract
Laser surface treatment was used to enhance the corrosion resistance of a high nickel austenitic ductile iron in 0.1% hydrochloric acid solution. After laser treatment, the corrosion potential of the high nickel austenitic ductile iron increased to a more noble level and the corrosion current considerably decreased. This is believed due to a refinement of the coarse ledeburite eutectic at or near the austenitic grain boundary and elimination of the graphite spheroids in laser modified layer.
