Abstract

The study showed that Menyuk's first equation on light pulse evolution in a birefringent Kerr medium is still applicable in a twisted fiber. Given the appropriate condition, with both the twist and beat lengths much shorter than the dispersive, walkoff, and nonlinear scale lengths, equation 1 is valid and B is resolved by global eigenmodes. As it turned out, the equation worked much better with twisted fiber rather than elliptically birefringent fibers.
