Abstract

The efficient high power Yb3+-silica fiber laser cladding-pumped at 1064 nm was presented. The low absorption in Yb3+-doped silica fiber at 1064 nm requires long fiber lengths and leads to a higher threshold. It was found that the Yb3+-silica double-clad fiber possessed a quasi-polygonal sinusoidal inner cladding geometry giving high launch efficiency to the fiber.
