Abstract
Excimer and CO2lasers were used to surface treat Ti-6Al-V alloy, and the resulting corrosion properties of the laser-treated material were compared with untreated material. To avoid extensive oxidation, and obtain a crack-free surface, the laser treatment was performed under a nitrogen or argon atmosphere. Results show, under both the excimer and CO2laser treatment, a significant improvement in corrosion resistance under argon gas.
