Abstract
An exploratory study is made of the possible application of Turned Liquid Column Dampers (TLCD) as an energy dissipating device to reduce the response of tall buildings and other structures subjected to wind loads. It is found that TLCD systems are capable of reducing the structural response with a relatively small mass and can achieve the same response reduction levels as those by traditional Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) systems with only half the mass. TLCD system offers several advantages including simplicity and retuning to natural period of the structure.
