title = "Effect of heat treatment on the maximum recovery stress of shape memory alloy under cyclic heating",
abstract = "Shape memory alloys (SMA) have been used in various applications. This paper describes an investigation into the strength improvement characteristics of SMA for use in structural strengthening in high temperature situation such as fire. First, the physical properties of the as-received samples were examined to determine the value of residual strain at room temperature so that optimum values of recovery stress of the SMA wires can be obtained when heated. This was followed by a series of tests for samples heat treated at various temperatures. The effects of cyclic heating on the maximum recovery stress were investigated. Experimental procedures for carrying out such testswere given in details. Recommendationswere made for achieving a residual strain at which the maximum recovery stress can be obtained at an optimum heat treatment temperature.",
