Abstract

A high-speed, high-resolution interferometer was constructed on the basis of four-channel phase-shift acquisition, real-time phase detection, unwrapping and profile-fitting image processing. This instrument was applied for visualisation of the mixing process between supercritical carbon dioxide and ethanol solvent above mixture critical pressure, at high Reynolds numbers. The instantaneous phase distribution and time-average concentration profiles in the jet have been obtained. The high sensitivity of this system also allowed measurements of the temperature profiles and determination of the excess enthalpy of ethanol-CO2mixing.
