Abstract

In this paper, a new coding scheme called dynamic codebook adaptive vector quantization (DCAVQ) is presented for image coding. The proposed system is intended to solve the overhead and complexity problem of existing adaptive vector quantization systems. Simulation results demonstrate that a gain of around 2dB in PSNR upon the universal vector quantizer, together with a better quality especially in the high contrast areas, is acquired. On the other hand, the execution time of the system is being comparable to that of a standard universal VQ system.
