Abstract

A directional bend sensor is demonstrated based on a long period grating fabricated in photonic crystal fiber by introducing geometric deformations in the cladding air holes with a CO2 laser. A bend sensitivity of 2.26 nm/m-1is achieved within the range of -5∼+5 m-1.
