Abstract

This work aims to design and investigate a smart compression stocking using shape-memory polymer (SMP) for the prevention and management of chronic venous disorders. A shape-memory stocking (SMS) was developed using a blend yarn consists of shape-memory polyurethane and nylon filaments. It was possible to control or manage the pressure exerted by the stocking in wrapped position, and extra pressure (up to 50%) was generated by simple heating. Increasing the temperature and strain in the stocking stimulated more amount of extra pressure generated. The SMS could be used for smart compression management.
