Abstract

This paper summarizes the historical development, current research activities, and future challenges of earthquake engineering in Hong Kong in the last 13 years, including the investigation of hazard, global risk analysis, soil-pile-structure interaction, seismic pounding between adjacent buildings, and seismic vulnerability of existing structures. The role of international networking and collaboration on the development of earthquake engineering will also be highlighted. We will also discuss our recent endeavor on another earthquakerelated hazard?tsunami, including field excursions, numerical simulation, and physical hydraulic modeling.
