Abstract
Selecting the right search engine to use is critical to meta-searching. This paper discusses the development of a directory of search engines by linking search engines to appropriate topics in a hierarchy of search topics. A categorization algorithm based on probe queries is used to determine the relevancy of specific search engines to search topics. Output of the categorization algorithm is compared with human categorizations and results are promising.
