Design of a sanding robot for wooden painted decoration box

Abstract

This paper aims to develop a robotic system which can sanding and smoothing the painted surface of the wooden made box for decoration industry. The system conisists of a robotic arm for grasping and manipulating the wooden box and a sanding station that drive the sand paper belt for sanding the paint layer. We also design a grasper, of which the fingers can simultaneously do expansion and contraction to facilitate the manipulation. Furthermore, the sanding station can use different sanding papers to construct a sanding production line to fulfill more complex sanding procedures. This robot can not only reduce the human power, but also save workers from the dusty and harmful working environment. Preliminary experiment shows the feasibility of this solution.
