Abstract
One of the perpetuate concerns of women has been the beauty of their physique, and in particular, their body shape and size. “No body is perfect” cannot be more true. Much effort has been devoted towards achieving an ideal figure, if it at all exists. To this end, clothing plays a vital role in hiding the demerits of a figure while highlighting the merit ones. The deployment of visual elements such as patterns, colours and textures further enables alternation of the overall visual impression of a figure toward a pleasing and flattering totality. The study aimed to study the relationship between visual design effects and Chinese female figures towards enhancing Chinese female figures. Specific objectives include: 1) study the visual effects of different visual design elements and principles; 2) to evaluate the applications of such elements and principles to flattering female figures; 3) to study the figure size of Chinese females and to identify their general figure problems; 4) to identify the preferred figure of Chinese females and to make comparative between the preferred and the realistic one; and 5) to propose visual recommendations that may help enhancing the figures of Chinese females. This paper reports on the deployment of visual design elements and principles that could flatter female figure.
