Abstract
An error-free all-optical packet switching was demonstrated by use of a multiwavelength mutual injection-locked Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD). The operation principle of the all-optical switch was based on injection locking of a commercially available FP-LD with a double-channel planar buried InGaAsP heterostructure. The switch-on and switch-off times of the FP-LD were within a bit period, so only 1 bit was required to serve as a guard period between the packets for packet demultiplexing.
