Abstract

This paper presents damping torque analysis of an automatic voltage regulator (AVR) in a multi-machine power system. Firstly in this paper, mathematic model of a multi-machine power system with AVR considered is described. Damping torque analysis of AVR is established. Then an example three-machine power system is presented to demonstrate how the damping torque analysis for the AVR is carried out. Finally, application of damping torque analysis for the AVR in a large-scale Chinese power system is presented to identify the most influential AVR on the system oscillation modes of interests.
