Abstract

The subsynchronous control interactions (SSCIs) observed have gained substantial attention in recent years due to the widespread use of converter-interfaced generator (CIG). This paper has proposed a method of damping contribution analysis (DCA) to examine the CIG control oscillation modes, which fills the research gap in the field of wideband oscillations caused by the interaction between grid-connected VSGs. By employing the proposed DCA method, it is revealed that PLL control loops of different CIGs are usually weakly coupled with each other. However, under the condition of open-loop modal resonance (OLMR), there might exist strong dynamic interaction between them, which is very likely to degrade the subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) associated stability margin in the power electronics-dominated power systems. The effectiveness of the proposed DCA method and the correctness of the above theoretical derivations are verified in a 16-machine 68-bus power system with multiple grid-connected PMSG-based wind farms.
