Abstract

It is well documented that inappropriate setting of HVDC controller could cause dynamic instability of an ac/dc system. In order to analyze the mechanism of this phenomenon, this paper proposes a general theoretical equation of electric damping coefficient of a HVDC link by using the complex torque coefficient method. With the help of this equation, the damping characteristics of different types of HVDC control systems can be quantitatively analyzed. The paper also introduces a theoretical principle to improve the performances of HVDC primary and auxiliary control systems with an application example.
