Abstract

This article provides a review of historical development and current trends of psychiatric rehabilitation services in Hong Kong and the United States. A comparison of the Hong Kong and United States psychiatric rehabilitation service configurations and the applicability of the various U.S. approaches in Hong Kong are discussed. Finally, Professor Gary Bond, who visited Hong Kong in July 2000, provides a commentary and reactions to our observations about the development of psychiatric rehabilitation in Hong Kong and discusses issues related to implementing western psychiatric rehabilitation models in Hong Kong and related Chinese communities.
