Crane safety operations in modular integrated construction

Abstract

Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) is a rapid and sustainable solution for construction projects. However, it poses challenges in crane safety operations (CSO). This paper examines CSO in MiC, offering fresh perspectives and contributions. The research aims to identify patterns, knowledge gaps, and future directions in CSO within MiC. Scientometric and systematic review approaches are integrated to ensure a comprehensive analysis. CSO research is categorized into four primary problem-based categories: Crane-Related Fatalities, Accidents, and Hazards; Risk Analysis and Evaluation; Enhancing Lifting Process Efficiency and Crane Operator Safety; and Technological Solutions and Innovations. Each category is subdivided into methods-based subcategories. The paper provides insights into methodologies and global trends in CSO practices, facilitating safety improvements in MiC projects. It also outlines future research directions and practical recommendations for implementing strategies aligned with these directions. This paper serves as a catalyst for enhancing safety and implementing research findings in real-world MiC scenarios.
