Abstract

Problems governed by both continuum and discontinuum like tunnels and caverns are best analyzed by the coupling distinct element method and finite element or boundary element method. This article introduces a technique in coupling FEM and DDA; this technique has been applied to some examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed coupling method.
