Abstract
Cost engineering is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the scientific approach toward management issued in engineering fields. It is still in a dynamic stage because it is revised periodically. Despite the rapid expansion of its practice, analysis suggests that cost engineering cannot be described as a bonafide academic discipline. It lacks a clear indication of its main concerns and contents and a coherent theory. It is not recognized as a distinct part of engineering. It is believed that more work is needed to establish cost engineering as an academic discipline. Apart from nourishing the vital attributes, one can also introduce partnerships between the cost engineering industry and academia.
