Abstract
This chapter offers an accessible introduction to corpus studies, highlighting its significance and multidisciplinary applications. It covers fundamental aspects, including corpus design principles, types of corpora, classic and advanced methods, and the general corpus analytical approach. The discussion extends to the opportunities and challenges inherent in corpus studies. Traditionally applied in linguistics, language education, and lexicography, corpus studies now span diverse fields such as sociology, media studies, law, health promotion, and business. The chapter concludes with a forward-looking perspective on the opportunities for corpus studies in the era of generative AI.
