Abstract

This chapter summarizes the recent application of nanotechnology in smart textiles. Two major technical applications, using nanosize fibre/fillers and employing specific nanocoating techniques to create smart textile, are reviewed. The existing functionality of textiles can be improved using nanotechnology, and it is also possible to manufacture smart textiles with entirely new properties or a combination of different functions.Nanotechnology can be used in textiles with a variety of methods. At the end of the chapter, the future development of nanotechnology for smart textiles is addressed.
