Abstract
Quality assurance for textile fabrics generated from production lines is vital for competitive advantage. The computer vision-based automated inspection of textile fabrics has invited significant attention from researchers to develop effective techniques for fabric defect detection and classification. In this chapter we provide an overview of the open problems, the state-of-the-art on fabric defect detection and classification techniques, and also the promises of the new technologies that could make low-cost robust defect detection a reality for textile industries. This chapter also provides a summary of the research efforts for the automated classification of dynamically populated fabric defects. Finally we discuss the evolving new technologies which promise to significantly enhance the state-of-the-art in fabric defect analysis for industrial usage.
