Abstract

In view of the disadvantage of currently used compaction uniformity evaluation system without considering the spatial distribution characteristics of unqualified compaction area, the quadrat analysis (QA) method based on point density and the nearest neighbor index (NNI) method based on point distance in geostatistics were introduced to evaluate the spatial distribution characteristics of the unqualified compaction area in railway subgrade combining with the field compaction test data obtained from the test section of Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway. Research shows that when the unqualified areas of railway subgrade are scattered, both the QA and NNI methods can make accurate judgment. When unqualified compaction areas are concentrated, there will be some misjudgment by the QA method affected by the quadrat division mode of compaction area. However, NNI method still can make accurate judgment. Accordingly, the NNI method is more suitable to evaluate the spatial distribution characteristics of the unqualified compaction area in railway subgrade.
