Abstract
This paper is addressed to the problem of reducing missed due-date and job flow-time in job shop scheduling by combining the job sequencing decision with the due-date assignment policy. A 'semi-local' due-date-oriented sequencing rule is designed to monitor the progress of jobs in the shop to meet their assigned due-dates. The performance of the sequencing rule is further enhanced with the implementation of a 'rational' method of due-date assignment which incorporates both job content and shop status information into its process of determining due-dates. Simulation results of actual shop data showing that the combined scheduling procedure performs better than some other simple sequencing rules with the TWK due-date assignment method are presented and discussed.
