Colour quantization by three-dimensional frequency diffusion

Abstract

This paper presents a novel algorithm for colour quantization based on frequency diffusion in the histogram of an image. By manipulating a diffusion filter, a cross-space operation is achieved, obtaining quantization effect in a colour space without transforming the image to that space. Results show that the algorithm is effective.
