Abstract
For successful construction, it is important to ensure that the dimensions of precast concrete elements conform to the design specifications. The current methods of accessing the quality of precast concrete elements, however, rely largely on manual inspection and lack a systematic data storage and delivery system. To tackle these limitations, this study proposes a dimensional quality assessment system for precast concrete elements using 3D laser scanning and cloud-BIM technologies. This study aims to examine the applicability of the dimensional quality assessment technique to full-scale precast concrete elements and develop a cloud-BIM system for effective and flexible data storage and management for quality assessment of precast concrete elements. A validation field test demonstrating the ability of the proposed system to access the dimensional quality of precast concrete elements and manage the quality inspection data in an automatic and effective manner is also presented in this paper.
