Abstract

Noun compound interpretation is to recover the implicit semantic relation between the nouns. In this paper, we present a dynamic approach to use paraphrasing verbs to interpret the two-word Chinese noun compounds automatically. The experimental results show that this approach not only provides the possible interpretations for noun compounds, but also captures the subtle semantic differences of similar noun compounds. In addition, our research can be applied in other fields such as question answering, information retrieval and lexicography.
